The beautiful Mowbray Valley is south of Port Douglas and is full of Rainforest trees (Samanea saman), an imported weed. These colossal one-hundred-year-old trees were planted for shade in hot tropical summers and have become part of the landscape.

Lapis blue pure pigment was crushed by hand. This pigment is sourced from Afghanistan and is the most expensive paint I’ve ever purchased. The blue is extraordinary and powerful; I mixed it with Old Holland zinc white and created numerous washes to give the painting a wet-season steamy appearance in the wet tropics.
